Giveaway Day

Saturday October 26, 2019 - RAIN OR SHINE
7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

What is it?

  • Residents can put household items that they no longer want on the curb for someone who might like them

  • This is a great opportunity to give unwanted items a new life while keeping items out of our landfills

  • Appropriate items: books, CDs, DVDs, furniture and small appliances, electronics, construction materials (including drywall, lumber, hardware), kitchen gadgets, dishes, cutlery, pots and pans

  • Inappropriate items (advised by the Consumer Product Safety Bureau of Health Canada): baby walkers, cribs, car seats, strollers, playpens, bath seats, mattresses, blinds, toys

  • Bring any uncollected items back inside at 6 p.m. on Giveaway Day

  • The city will NOT collect unwanted Giveaway Day items left at the curb and these may be subject to fines from Bylaw Enforcement

  • Consider donating unwanted items to a local charity

How to put items out:

  • Place items at the curb in front of your home

  • Place stickers or signs on the items with the word ‘FREE’

  • If placing out clothing or other items in plastic bags, use clear or translucent bags; this helps to separate Giveaway Days items from garbage

  • Ensure any items on your property that you do not want taken are kept away from items placed at the curb

  • At the end of the day, bring uncollected items back into your home

How to pick items up:

  • Respect other people’s property; don’t walk on lawns or gardens

  • Take only the items marked ‘FREE’ placed at the curb

  • Do not leave previously picked up items on the curb at another property
