The Advance Polls will feature Ballot Marker Device tabulators. The Ballot Marker Device takes accessible voting to its most comprehensive level:  the unit allows the accessibility voter to produce a human and machine readable marked paper ballot, completely indistinguishable from a paper ballot marked by hand.

The voter will hear the audio ballot, and can adjust the volume and speed of the audio presentation.  The voter can move between contests, select votes, and print their ballot.

The Ballot Marker Device tabulator also simultaneously services able-bodied voters, who can insert and scan their ballots at the same time as the accessible voter is generating their marked ballot via the Ballot Marker Device feature.

Voters who are in a long term care centre, hospital or home

    • Facilities for the disabled, chronically ill or infirm that have 20 or more residents on Nomination Day.

    • Retirement homes that have 50 or more residents on Nomination Day.

Voters who are unable to vote on voting or advance voting days

  • A person who is not able to attend the voting location or advance vote to vote may appoint another person as a voting proxy to vote on their behalf.  The person acting as a proxy must also be an eligible elector in the City of Quinte West.  No person shall appoint more than one voting proxy and no person can act as a proxy for more than one person unless the relationship between the proxy and the persons for whom they are voting are their spouse, same-sex partner, a sibling, parent, child, grandparent, or grandchild.

  • Proxies can only be appointed after the time for the withdrawal of nominations has expired for all offices for which the election is being conducted.  The earliest day for appointment will be August 1, 2018.  Applicants to act as proxies must attend the City Clerk's Office located on the 2nd Floor, 7 Creswell Drive, Trenton, and present a prescribed Appointment Form signed by the elector.  The City Clerk (or designate) will complete an Appointing Certificate and this document must be presented at the voting location.  The person acting as a proxy must attend the voting location designated for the elector for whom they are voting.

Voters who are homeless

  • If you are homeless, or do not have a permanent address, you can still vote.  Your qualifying address, which determines where you can vote, will be determined using the following rules:

    • The place to which you most frequently return to sleep or eat during the five weeks preceding the determination in your residence.

    • If you return with equal frequency to one place to sleep and to another to eat, the place to which you return to sleep is your residence.

    • Multiple returns to the same place during a single day, whether to eat or to sleep shall be considered one return.

    • Your affidavit regarding the places to which you return to eat or sleep during a given time period is conclusive, in the absence of evidence to the contrary.
