Trent Port Marina receives prestigious Blue Flag eco-certification

The prestigious 'Blue Flag' eco-certification was awarded to Trent Port Marina in May of 2018 as one of only nine Canadian marinas with this honour. Trent Port Marina was very excited to subsequently be advised by Blue Flag on October 5, 2018 that it was recognized as fully compliant with all the Blue Flag criteria in the 2018 season. The Marina was again awarded the Blue Flag in May 2019 as one of only 12 marinas in Canada.  The award represents a gold-standard for water quality, environmental management and education, safety and amenities. When you see the blue flag flying, you know the Marina is environmentally conscious, clean and accessible.

Boaters' Environmental Code of Conduct:

  1. Keep all garbage on board the boat until it may be placed in waste containers.
  2. Separate recyclables and dispose of accordingly.
  3. Separate all hazardous wastes such as: oils, antifreeze, paints, solvents, cleaners, batteries, fuel, and oil filters and take all wastes to municipal household hazardous waste disposal.
  4. Avoid spilling fuel, oil or any chemicals/cleaners into the water. Refrain from pumping oil-contaminated bilge water overboard.
  5. Take all precautions to avoid leaving any debris, litter or liquid contaminants behind.
  6. Avoid pumping grey water overboard when in Marina or anytime that you are on the water.  Grey water should be removed using an acceptable sumping system.
  7. Never discharge raw sewage from the black-water holding tanks anywhere other than the pump-out station.
  8. Use environmentally-responsible products whenever and wherever possible.
  9. Always show respect for the environment and wildlife.

Clean Marine Logo

Clean Marine Program

Marina staff is excited to announce that the Trent Port Marina has achieved a 5 Anchor Clean Marine rating through the Boating Ontario Clean Marine Program.

Each of the Clean Marine Program marinas must pass a comprehensive environmental audit to ensure compliance with the program standards set out in the Clean Marine Operations Handbook. This handbook, developed through the cooperation of Boating Ontario, Environment Canada and the Ontario Ministry of the Environment sets out more than 200 environmental practices that cover all aspects of marine operations from fueling to waste oil, shrinkwrap and paper recycling, to money-saving initiatives such as energy conservation.

Each marina is audited by Greenleaf, a third party firm who provides the marina with a detailed report on their compliance with the standards of the Clean Marine Program. Results of this audit are converted to a five point Eco-Rating system, with a low of one, and a high of five green leaf anchors.
