About Us
The City of Quinte West IT/GIS Division is responsible for the administration of all computer related technologies throughout the organization, as well as all telephone and data communications. The IT/GIS Division is also responsible for defining and maintaining IT/GIS technology standards and security. The IT/GIS Division work with and support the City's municipal departments and provide various applications and services to assist in providing the best municipal services to the Public.
Since 2006, over fifteen (15) IT/GIS applications have been developed by IT/GIS staff as well as seven (7) customized GIS mapping applications. In 2008, the City launched a security camera system in Trenton and Frankford and in May 2010 it will launch an internal wireless internet network to provide internet connectivity to twenty Municipal facility sites.
GIS Services
The City of Quinte West GIS Division was started in the spring of 1999. The use of GIS in the City has grown tremendously from a few computers in 1999 to well over 130 computers by 2010. This was made possible by an internet-based GIS application that was launched by the City in November 2005.
Since then, the City of Quinte West GIS Division has become a leader in web-based GIS advancement in the Province and have developed seven (7) staff and public GIS sites to serve our Community. Since 2007, the City of Quinte West has won 3 major municipal awards for its GIS applications.
Staff is continuing to use GIS technology to assist various City departments as well as developing applications that serve as a valuable resource to the citizens of Quinte West.
