Protective Services Committee
Purpose
The Protective Services Committee is a standing committee of City Council and is composed of the Mayor (ex officio), the Fire Chief, and selected Councillors, together with non-elected representatives from each of the City's four Wards. The Committee holds public meetings quarterly and, as required, at other times at the call of the Chair to exercise oversight on behalf of Council in the area of Protective Services, such as fire prevention and suppression, first response medical care, and miscellaneous emergency situations other than those requiring police.
Responsibilities
The responsibilities of the Protective Services Committee are briefly outlined below.
- Exercise oversight on behalf of Council in the area of Protective Services, such as fire prevention and suppression, first response medical care, and miscellaneous emergency situations other than those requiring police
- Review reports concerning personnel, equipment, training, and operations of the Fire Department
- Consider staffing levels and the annual budget of the Fire Department, major equipment acquisitions, and matters involving liaison with provincial and other municipal authorities, and provide recommendations to Council as appropriate
