Policy Planning
Policy planning establishes strategic policies and programs to manage the long-term development of the City of Quinte West in a way that is consistent with the City's Official Plan.
Special studies relating to specific issues such as growth management, heritage preservation, and environmental conservation are also conducted to inform the development of new policies.
Official Plan
The authority for preparing and adopting an Official Plan is set out in the Planning Act. The Act requires that, at least every five years, a municipal council hold a public meeting to determine if there is a need to revise the Plan. The objective of periodic reviews of the Official Plan is to maintain a contemporary Official Plan that reflects community interests while fulfilling its primary role of directing the physical development of the City and accounting for land use, economic, environmental, and other relevant considerations.
Council has determined that the Official Plan should be reviewed and updated where necessary so that it reflects current trends and circumstances.
Draft Official Plan & Schedules
The Official Plan is a municipality's blueprint for the future. It contains policies and maps that will direct where residential, commercial, institutional, recreational, and industrial development can go and what areas must be protected from development. It also contains information on the future expansion of the City's infrastructure.
The following is a complete version of the Draft Official Plan. Also present are larger versions of the Scheduled Maps.
Copies of each are available for viewing at each of the Quinte West Libraries as well as at City Hall Offices, Planning Department, 2nd floor. Copies can be obtained by contacting Dayna Lafferty, Policy Planner at (613) 392-2841 ext. 4466 or daynal@quintewest.ca.
