Capital & Operating Budgets

Budget Process

The City's capital budget process starts in the fall of each year with each Committee setting capital priorities. The capital budget is then submitted to City Council for final approval, which generally takes place in December. Members of the public have an opportunity to provide their input at the Committee or Council level.

The City's preliminary operating budget is presented to Council each year at the beginning of March. The individual department operating budgets are then forwarded to the respective Committees for comment. The final operating budget goes back to Council in mid-April for final approval. Members of the public have an opportunity to provide their input at any of the meetings held during the process.
