Building Services
The Building Services Department is responsible for the enforcement of the Building Code Act and Building Code Regulations. The department consists of the Chief Building Official (CBO), a Senior Building Inspector, two Building Inspectors, and an Administrative Assistant. They review all plans, assist in the completion of building permits and other required applications and perform on-site inspections.
Building Services is responsible for processing building permit applications covering a wide variety of permits such as, but not limited to:
Building Services is responsible for conducting inspections for compliance with minimum health, life safety, and structural sufficiency requirements as required in
the Building Code Act, as well as investigating complaints related to unauthorized construction.
Building Services is also responsible for collecting various municipal fees at the
time of application, including:
A building permit is your formal permission to begin construction or demolition. It means that the City has reviewed the plans for any new structure, addition or renovation.

Building permits regulate the type of construction allowed in the community and help to ensure that building standards are met. The building permit process protects each homeowner's interests, as well as those of the community, and helps to ensure that any structural change is safe, legal, and sound.
